Sonoma

In 1875, horticulturist Luther Burbank referred to Sonoma County as “the chosen spot of all this earth.” He wasn't alone in these views, either. Sonoma County has often been the subject of chatter, the inspiration for songs and the muse behind poetry and stories.

Sonoma is a historic city in northern California at the heart of the renowned Sonoma Valley winemaking region. It’s known for its art galleries and the colonial-era Sonoma Plaza. Surrounding this plaza are significant 19th-century adobe buildings including Mission San Francisco Solano and the Sonoma Barracks, once used by the Mexican military. Seasonally, the square hosts a popular weekly farmer’s market. Population estimated around 11,248.

Sonoma is a world class destination for wine, California history, fine dining and home town charm on the central plaza. Art in the park, farmers markets, boutique shopping and highly regarded restaurants make this a sophisticated retreat with an old-fashioned down home charm. Residents are a mix of locals with family ties to business, the famed William-Sonoma chain got its start here, farming, viticulture; retirees from across the country and weekend second homes for San Franciscans seeking to escape the city fog belt. History buffs enjoy the General Vallejo home and adobe barracks as well as the northern most of the Spanish missions, Mission San Francisco Solano.
